Don't we need to use disposables when we go out?

Parents who use disposables have asked if the pail smells worse.

1. Isn't using cloth a lot of work?

Parents who use disposables always seem to think that cloth diapering is so much work. In reality cloth diapering is very easy and is not really much more work than disposables. You never run out of diapers and have to run to the store for more and you don't have to take the trash (dirty diapers) out daily. Consider this: your grandmother most likely did not have a washing machine or a dryer and she managed and she had to fold and pin her diapers.

2. Will cloth cause/ increase the occurrence of diaper rash?

No the opposite is probably true. The main thing in preventing diaper rash is keeping them dry and clean and please remember when we are talking disposables dry does not necessarily mean clean. The other important part of preventing diaper rash is proper air circulation which they get much more of in cloth.

3. Is the washing process difficult or confusing?

No it is really just like washing anything else so if you know how to wash clothes you can easily wash diapers. Our washing instructions will shed more light on this subject.

4. Will I need a special diaper pail?

No, sometimes cloth diaper retailers will try to sell you a special pail but it is not necessary just don't buy one of the diaper genie's to accommodate disposables. The plainest pale you can find will do just fine. We have found one with a lid that comes off and stays off is a little easier to work with.

5. Will wearing cloth diapers prevent my baby from sleeping through the night?

No, if your baby isn't going to sleep through the night more absorbent diapers will not make a difference. We recommend putting an extra pad in at night and nap time. The best advice we can offer when it comes to getting your baby to sleep through the night is to have a regular schedule and routine. Babies like the rest of us like predictability and consistency.

6. How many diapers do I need?

36, maybe more if you are planning to formula feed because formula fed babies urinate more and have more bowel movements than breastfed (one more reason to give breastfeeding a whirl). You want 36 so you are not doing laundry everyday which will end up costing you more money and of course time and in the beginning your sanity.

7. Don't we need to use disposables when we go out?

NO, it is pretty easy to take a plastic bag with you in your diaper bag to put your wet diapers in then into the pail when you get home. If they have a bowel movement flush the poop into the toilet then give it a quick wash in the sink. Take your baby's mess home with you instead of leaving it for someone else to smell.

8. Parents who use disposables have asked if the pail smells worse.

No, the poop is being flushed down the toilet where it belongs so it smells a lot less than a pail full of disposables with the feces still in them. Sometimes it smells like urine I like to give mine a quick rinse out with pine sol you can use whatever cleaner you like the smell of.
